The stakes are high for jailed former Pakistan PM Imran Khan's party Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The PTI-backed candidates form largest bloc in the new National Assembly. The new government, therefore, is likely to face the questions of legitimacy.

The Afghanistan Challenge

The Taliban regime in Afghanistan once fostered by Pakistan itself, has become a challenge for army generals in Rawalpindi. This is because Taliban, like previous Afghan regimes, do not recognise Durand Line, the Pak-Afghan border. In past days, Taliban have claimed parts of Pakistan as their own.
