Meet the 6 Indian Americans elected to the US House of Representatives

Six Indian Americans have won elections to the House of Representatives, increasing their number from five in the current Congress. Take a look at the elected officials:
Indian-American lawyer Suhas Subramanyam made history by becoming the first person from the community to be elected from Virginia and the entire East Coast. Subramanyam defeated Mike Clancy of the Republican Party. He is currently a Virginia State Senator.
A physician by profession, Dr. Ami Bera is the senior-most Indian American Congressman, representing California’s 6th Congressional District since 2013. He was re-elected for a seventh consecutive term.
Raja Krishnamoorthi won Illinois’ 7th Congressional District for a fifth consecutive term.
Ro Khanna was re-elected to represent California’s 17th Congressional District. Khanna was first elected to the US House in 2016.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal was re-elected to represent Washington’s 7th Congressional District. The first Indian-American woman elected to Congress, Jayapal has served as the representative for Washington’s 7th District since 2017.
Shri Thanedar was re-elected for a second consecutive term from Michigan’s 13th Congressional District. He first won the seat in 2023.
The number of Indian Americans in the House of Representatives may rise to seven, with Dr. Amish Shah holding a narrow lead over the Republican incumbent in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.
