India’s fossil fuel emissions are projected to rise by 4.6% in 2024, according to Global Carbon Project.
Meanwhile, China, which makes up 32% of the global total, could see a slight 0.2% rise in fossil fuel emissions.
The research by a group of international scientists warns that global fossil fuel emissions may reach a record 37.4 billion tonnes in 2024.

India has pledged to reach net zero emissions by 2070 and aims to achieve 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The report forecasts a decrease in US and EU emissions, with drops of 0.6% and 3.8%, respectively.
Emissions from aviation and shipping are expected to rise 7.8% in 2024 but are still 3.5% below 2019 pre-pandemic levels.
