How to Watch 'Ring of Fire' Solar Eclipse on October 2, 2024

A spectacular astronomical event of the annular solar eclipse will take place on Wednesday, October 2, creating a ‘ring of fire’.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the Earth and the sun, forming a straight line and blocking the sun.

A 'ring of fire' solar eclipse is visible when the moon is near its farthest point from the Earth, making it appear smaller than the sun.

A total solar eclipse will be visible across the Pacific Ocean, and southern parts of Chile and Argentina slightly before 5:30 pm local time. It can also be seen from Rapa Nui or Easter Island around 2 pm local time.

A partial eclipse will be visible in parts of North America, South America, Antarctica, and the Atlantic Ocean including Hawaii, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

It is important to take necessary precautions when looking at a solar eclipse. Only use safe solar viewers and filters to look at the sun during eclipse. A pinhole projector can also be used to view the eclipse safely but with caution.
