Storing tomatoes can be tricky as they become mealy and lose their flavour faster than most vegetables. Here are some ways you can store tomatoes to keep them fresh for longer:
If your tomatoes are ripe, store them in a cool, dark place like a wine cellar. Tomatoes last longer when stored at temperatures between 12.7° F to 70° F.
You can also refrigerate tomatoes if you don’t have a cool room in your home.
If your tomatoes are unripe, it is best to avoid refrigeration. Store them at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
Store your tomato stem side facing down. This will prevent them from spoiling while they finish ripening. You can also put a piece of tape near the stem to prevent them from bruising.
If your tomato is sliced, cover it with a plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator with the cut side facing down.
You can also freeze tomatoes to preserve them for longer. Rinse, dry, and remove their stems then freeze them in a container or bag.
