Some birds like parrots, crows, and ravens have the ability to mimic human speech surprisingly well. But how are they able to do it?
Researchers have found that parrots often have “conversations” amongst themselves and can learn languages similar to how humans do.
Furthermore, these birds have a different voice box than humans, which lets them have more control over their vocal tract.
These birds also can produce two sounds at once, which enables them to sing continuously.
Similarly, some birds have this unique ability to mimic the sounds they hear in the environment. For example: Mockingbirds are known to mimic the sounds of other creatures including crickets and frogs.
Then there are lyrebirds who have surprised researchers with their ability to mimic unnatural sounds like a camera, chainsaw, and others.
