While many fruits are safe to consume for your pet dogs, here are some common fruits that are not fit for consumption by dogs:
Cherries are small fruits which dogs may swallow whole. The pit of cherries contain small amounts of cyanide which may be harmful to dogs. They may also obstruct bowel movement.
Citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruits are acidic in nature and can upset the stomach of your four-legged friend. The peel of these fruits can also result in choking and lead to gastrointestinal issues.
Grapes and raisins are harmful to dogs and can result in kidney failure in some dogs, even when consumed in small quantities.
While dogs can eat a small amount of avocado flesh, other parts of the fruit like skin, stem, and leaves contain persin, which is toxic for dogs. It can result in diarrhoea and vomiting.
While a small amount of plum flesh is not harmful to dogs, plum pits contain cyanide. They may also damage your dog’s oesophagus or stomach, or obstruct the intestinal tract.
