Slice onion lengthwise, peel and slit the raw banana, then slice and immerse in water.
Grind 2 tbsp coconut, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp black pepper, half tsp cumin seeds, 2 garlic cloves and 2 red chilies into a slightly coarse paste using a little water.
Temper mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves in hot oil. Add onions and fry until they turn transparent.
Add the sliced banana with ground paste, ¼ cup water, salt, and turmeric. Mix well and cook covered on medium heat for 4 minutes.
